Austin has been a great place. Too great in fact.
I realized that if I don’t leave now, I’ll have to stay here! The hometown of Lance Armstrong, the undisputed most Bike-friendly place in Texas, and all the nice white liberals make me feel like I’m back where I grew up in Portland, OR. No wonder all those folks in other parts of Texas said I’d like it here. Even the city’s taxis are bicycles!

I must say that the coolest shop I’ve been to so far was the guys from Performance Bicycles, or as they guys there liked to say, “the Target of the bike world” (not to be confused as the Wal-Mart of the bike world, they are much classier than that). They hooked me up with a rear wheel thats much stronger for the high mileage and load I’m carrying, as well as goods to keep me fed and energized along the ride.
Austin definitely has a special place in my heart, but I gotta get out soon, or I’ll catch myself living here!

Austin is a great place to ride, but I prefer Dallas County because it has just enough hills. And they are real hills, unlike Harris County where the biggest hill in the county is an overpass.
