Wow, usually I don’t get to hear this type of humor but I was privy to it tonight @ the local gas station a few blocks from work in Blaine, WA (just south of the Canadian border). I was tellin the clerk about Michelle Obama planting a garden in England last week and how well she got along with the children. And the man behind me in his dirty coveralls and work boots says “watermelons?!”
I kinda did a double take and told them that I don’t usually get to hear those jokes. I guess its a different world to be ethnically ambiguous at times. And to hear that we’re still usin Jim Crow imagery in ’09 is fascinating and disturbing! Its still a very racist place that we’re livin in.
So what does Obama’s presidency mean? I believe it will just become more concealed and covert than it has already been.

It is just too sad. It is people’s infected minds that need to be revolutionized. We need to reeducate Americans and change the way we interact with each other.

Too bad you couldn’t avoid the local hicks of greater Whatcom County. These are the type of people who arm themselves on the weekend, and actually spend their time patrolling the northern borders of Washington State looking for illegal immigrants. I kid you not!
You might want to consider being in downtown Bellingham at 4:00pm Friday for the weekly peace demonstration. Tuesday nights after 7:00pm at Western Washington University’s Underground Coffeeshop would also another good locale to if you’re going to be there for any length of time.
AS FOR THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY:
It means another millionaire-lawyer has ascended to the throne of the American empire. It means that without the constant pressure of civil rights activists, the anti-war movement, and the millions of younger voters and progressives responsible for his victory- THERE WILL BE NO REAL CHANGE!
The fundamental issues of Constitutional Law are, of course, the most pivotal foundations upon which our nation stands. Mr. Obama, having been a professor of Constitutional Law, has no excuse not to remember this.
There are no acceptable explanations for allowing political expediency to prevail, when the price is to allow the continued existence of illegal and immoral governmental policies. To shoulder the reponsibility for the reversal of these policies and the prosecution of those responsible for such crimes against American citizens and others, is his publicly sworn DUTY!
Illegal and unwarranted wiretaps, the suspension of habeas corpus, continued occupation of foreign nations, the detention of foreign nationals, the use of rendition, torture of American citizens, perjury under oath in regards to the events of 9/11, and the myriad of other ways in which the undermining of our Bill of Rights continues, are of supreme importance. The financial markets are of little consequence to citizens living in fear of their own government’s actions of lack thereof (see: Hurricane Katrina.)

The window of opportunity is not large, and all racist blather aside, the color of Mr. Obama’s skin bears no relationship to his ability to keep his promises. His unfortunate choice to fail as our annointed keeper and protector of the U.S. Constitution, when he is eminently qualified and entrusted with just such a task , shall ultimately be the undoing of us all.
I cut him no slack, and neither should you!!!

If it racist to make jokes about a black president or his family, then to bad. you had the luxuary to make jokes about gw bush, referring to him as retarded, stupid, and a million other things but obama is off limits? forget that. he and you need thicker skin, as this world needs laughter now more than ever.

Its one thing to make cracks about a person who showed poor judgement time and time again for 8 years in office and its another thing to make “jokes” about someone based on the color of their skin.

The laughter ended when our government chose to invade and occupy foreign nations without any formal Declaration of War as required by the U.S. Constitution(but hey, don’t expect the U.S. Congress to grow a spine anytime soon).
Resorting to the ridicule of individuals based upon their physical or mental attributes constitutes an attack ad hominem, and does nothing to advance the causes of freedom, justice, or liberty.
We need to educate ourselves, rather than holding our collective nose to retard the stench of corruption emanating from Washington D.C. We need to rise above the simplistic lure of devisive racial and economic politics. And most importantly, we need to be willing to hold our elected leaders to the standards of own domestic statutory and constitutional laws, as well as those international treaties and agreements our nation helped to create. I don’t agree with his policies but that is no reason to make these horrible jokes about him. After all he is our president, let’s make the best of it and wish him well.
