Un-Theft in New York

Biking the Brooklyn Bridge
So I’ve been off the radar for a couple months, a quick recap- I moved to Long Island New York and have been working in an after school program.  Anyways, a few weekends back I left my fixed gear bike locked up at a train station only to come back a couple days later and it was gone! I was heartbroken, because its my only form of transportation out here, and its a bike I built and painted by hand.

So on my two-mile walk back from the train station a couple weeks back I decide to take a shortcut through the supermarket parking lot and came upon my bike, resting on a curb outside the Liquor Store!  I hopped on it and rode home fast as I could!  Must be all the energy I had put into it that drew it back to me.  Anyways, I told the whole story to Bike Talk: an online Bike Radio program in Los Angeles.

Here’s my question for anyone reading this… Has anyone else ever had a reuniting experience with their two-wheeled best friend? I’d love to hear about it!  Tailwinds.

It happened to me! In 2006, I was going through a divorce and I rode my 2 bikes alternatively, on a 25 miles daily round trip. One morning, I was running late and I arrived at work the exact time I was to hit the clock. So I did not lock my bike, it was inside the fence at work. I came back on my break and my ParkPre was gone. I filled out a report and figured, maybe the thief needed transportation. Then one day, I was driving along the route to pick my daughter up from school, and at a store, I saw my unique bike. I wanted to lock it to a pole, but decided to just leave it. I now have 3 bikes, a 1950′s Roadmaster, a KONA Smoke, and my new KONA Sutra!

Thats a great story…I just can’t figure out why you would leave your bike Locked up at a train station. And to leave it for a couple days. Not very wise. Why not leave it at home, safe.Anyway my bike and I never separate, we have the perfect co-dependent relationship.Glad you got it back.
